We were faced with a demanding and responsible task

The Bank of Slovenia website is the central tool for communication with the public, financial institutions, and the media. The redesign of the Bank of Slovenia website was an extremely challenging and responsible task due to the size of the website and the subsequent transfer of content from the old website to the new one. We had to create a new menu structure and a new content structure, while also considering strict security systems for data processing. All of this had to be integrated with existing databases that change on a daily basis, as well as develop new custom functionalities.

We thoroughly redesigned the outdated system

Before the redesign, the Bank of Slovenia website faced several significant challenges. One of them was an outdated design that was not in line with modern user experience trends, such as minimalist design, large and legible fonts, intuitive user experience, and mobile optimization. The security systems and manual data updating also needed to be updated, as these could otherwise be shown with automated systems. The content management system (CMS) was also outdated, which made work more difficult for editorial teams, extending content publishing processes.

The confusing navigation, which made it hard to find information and reduced the positive user experience, could discourage users from further browsing the site. The old system also faced technical limitations, such as non-standard content displays and a complicated process for updating graphic displays and publications, like automatically converting Word documents into content displayed on the subpages without manually transferring data.

At the Bank of Slovenia, the protection of sensitive data is of utmost importance. The website uses the latest security protocols, including an audit trail of changes by users and authentication via the Bank of Slovenia's digital certificate for accessing confidential information.

For the redesign, we focused on creating a modern, responsive, and user-friendly website that is technically optimized to operate under high security and performance standards.

Improved Advanced Technology and Optimized Content

A custom-made web application was developed for the redesign, based on the Laravel framework and the advanced CMS interface Twill. The solution was designed to enable easy content management and high performance, adapting to the needs of the client.

Automated Data Display

In collaboration with the IT department of the Bank of Slovenia, we set up API integrations that allow for automated retrieval and display of current financial data:

  • Exchange rates and reference rates: The website now automatically retrieves the latest data on the European Central Bank’s reference rates and displays it in an interactive table that is refreshed every working day at specified times.

  • Statistical data: The system regularly updates key macroeconomic indicators such as inflation, interest rates, and financial flows, displaying them in graphs and analyses available to users.

  • Credit and deposit data: Data on average interest rates for deposits and loans is automatically obtained from the latest bank reports and presented in a clear and comparative format.

Optimized Graph Display

Instead of static images, graphical displays are now generated directly from data in JSON format. This provides a flexible and optimal display on any device. The graphs dynamically adjust to the screen, improving readability and user experience.

Archive Publications and Reports

The website provides access to reports and analyses, with automatic conversion of Word documents into content displayed on the website. This eliminates the need for manual editing and improves the consistency of the display, as well as makes it easier for users to access data.

Testing and Performance Assurance

Before launch, extensive testing was conducted, including user tests and confirmation and coordination with 12 different departments of the client. Special attention was given to loading speed, security, and system scalability, ensuring it adapted to the performance of the software and hardware.

High Availability and Security

To ensure uninterrupted operation of the website, a master-slave server architecture was set up across two physically separated locations. This allows for automatic switching in case of failure and ensures maximum system availability.

Result: A Modern, Efficient, and Stable Web Platform
